Welcome to Border Writing
Welcome to Border Writing, the home of Dr. Barry Thatcher. I am currently an Associate Professor of rhetoric and professional communication at New Mexico State University, Department of English.
I have a variety of research and teaching interests including
U.S.-Mexico border health literacy, intercultural rhetoric and
professional communication, environmental health, and Latin American
rhetorics.
What's New
I'm currently working on the following projects:
- Intercultural Rhetoric and Professional Communication, which consists of twelve chapters discussing theory, application, teaching, and researching of rhetoric and professional communications across cultures.
- Developing health literacy materials and fotonovelas for U.S.-Mexico border
colonias.
- Developing the Spanish journal
Retorica Latinoamericana.
- History of rhetoric in Mexico and Latin America
- Professional communication media theory across cultures
- U.S./Mexico border health literacy
- Coordinating NM Senator Bingaman's Border Security Task Force.
- Teaching and curriculum development in intercultural professional communication
